The news of Patrick Swayze’s death from Pancreatic Cancer at only 57, breaks my heart.
I knew Patrick Swayze not as the actor but as the horseman. And a great horseman he was..
It was back in the late 80’s and early 90’s when we both were younger and dedicated to the Arabian horse. Patrick and his wife Lisa were well respected for their knowledge and compassion for the breed.
I remember watching them with their young stallion, Tammen at the 1989 Arabian Nationals. The Egypian Stallion was always a favorite of mine, not only for his talent and classic Arabian beauty but also for the affection between him and Patrick. Theirs was a strong bond.
Among the Arabian Show community Patrick and Lisa were just one of the crowd. Always willing to talk training techniques, breeding and pedigrees. It was never about Patrick the movie star, always about Tammen the Stallion.
Patrick was a kind compassionate human being full of love for his wife, his horses and humanity.
I’d like to see Patrick and Tammen together again flying across a field with grace and beauty.

My family , when I was a young girl, bred, raised and showed Arabians as well.
Altho, I would never know if Patrick Swayze was showing in the same shows, we were so all consumed (us girls were doing the showing at very young ages)…
